We are reaching out to update you on the following communications and OCR training sessions.


  1.  Alaris Pump Upgrade :

The Ambulatory Clinical Education and Professional Development (CEPD) team would like to gather information on all Ambulatory and Hospital-based clinics that utilize Alaris pumps in preparation for the Alaris pump upgrade.  The Development Team is looking to capture which job roles need to be assigned the module in Elsevier that addresses the new clinical alerts.

  1.  Florence Access Form and SOP Attestation Update:

Teams are now able to upload copies of training completion certificates for non-UTSW, non-CMC, and non-PHHS users in the access form.  As a reminder, role specific training must be completed before RAS will grant access.  Please make sure the training is done before submitting the form.

  1.  Using Beacon to Link orders in BRB Studies:
Beacon is Epic's medical oncology application.  Beacon treatment plans manage a patient's therapy across visits for the entire length of treatment.  Due to a system default, charges are being billed to patients' insurance in error.  We created a tip sheet to assist you with steps to avoid unnecessary patient billing, which is attached, further details about research billing can be found using the link below:

  1.  No Surprise Billing-Good Faith Estimates:
Our final educational session happens on December 5th.

The No Surprises Act (NSA) is a Federal Law that went into effect on January 1, 2022, to protect patients from unexpected medical bills.  This law protects patients from surprise bills by requiring institutions to send an itemized list of the expected charges for care through a Good Faith Estimate (GFE). In research, certain medical services will trigger GFE.

The OCR will host an education session reviewing the following:


  *   The No Surprises Act and the steps UTSW is taking to provide Good Faith Estimates.
  *   When the Good Faith Estimate will be available to the patient.
  *   What information is included in the Good Faith Estimate?
  *   An example of the Itemized estimate.
