Rhonda,

We don't have cytology (Non GYN) specimens that get processed "routinely".  In our procedure we say that it is "left to the discretion of the clinician" to decide if cytology is medically necessary for the patient.  We also have a list of pathology specimens that are exempt from processing, this includes both histology and cytology specimens.  I hope this helps.
