you can light gun powder wetted with 100 proof or above spirit (about 55%
ethanol)
In the days when the British Navy was all sailing ships this was the only
test and was "proof" that the alcohol was at least 100 proof.
This was very important when the rum ration was part of our man management
scheme and was probably the reason the Royal Navy faired so well against
all-comers.
