We are reaching out to update you on new process training sessions being offered by the Office of Clinical Research.


  1.  Value Analysis for Clinical Research :

Value Analysis (VA) is an equipment vetting process performed by the Value Analysis Team (VAT).  The review is a systematic approach to reduce unnecessary costs, increase effectiveness, and improve safety and outcomes across UT Southwestern Medical Center’s hospital and hospital-based clinics.

  1.  No Surprise Billing-Good Faith Estimates:

The No Surprises Act (NSA) is a Federal Law that went into effect on January 1, 2022, to protect patients from unexpected medical bills.  This law protects patients from surprise bills by requiring institutions to send an itemized list of the expected charges for care through a Good Faith Estimate (GFE). In research, certain medical services will trigger a GFE.

The OCR will host several education sessions reviewing the following:


  *   The No Surprises Act and the steps UTSW is taking to provide Good Faith Estimates.

  *   When the Good Faith Estimate will be available to the patient.

  *   What information is included in the Good Faith Estimate?
  *   How to help a research patient who received a Good Faith Estimate and has questions.

  *   An example of the Itemized estimate.
