Hello Christopher.

Since C4d-positive kidney and heart controls are often difficult to source, it might be useful to consider placenta (Chronic Histiocytic Intervillositis) or skin with bullous pemphigoid. References as follows:

C4d staining is present in normal placentas from pregnancies prior to pregnancy loss associated with chronic histiocytic intervillositis and is reduced by immunomodulatory therapy in subsequent pregnancies. Chandler, W., Zone, J., & Florell, S. (2009). C4d immunohistochemical stain is a sensitive method to confirm immunoreactant deposition in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded tissue in bullous pemphigoid. Journal of cutaneous pathology, 36(6), 655-659.
