Hate to say it, but yes plants are considered infectious. Thats why you cant take them in ICU's either. I guess the mold or bacterias can grow on them. Most places let this slide, but some dont. Good luck!

I have had plants in a number of labs. Could be against the rules, but I never saw it. I even had a canary in one lab - pretty sure that is against the rules.
