Rena,

If one uses Light Green (SF Yellowish) as a counterstain, it is important to monitor it closely. That solution will grow fungus and will show up as an artifact on stained slides. It is easy to tell the source because it is not stained, whereas your silver or PAS techniques will stain the fungus in the tissue. Some labs moved to fast green as a counterstain instead because of this issue.
