For Medicare, my understanding would be to use the DOS if less than 30 days, and to use the date pulled from archives if more than 30 days. At least that is the regs for additional tests. I think it would be the same for consult as well.

Subject: [Histonet] Consult accessioning question
When accessioning a case for consultation, do you use the date on the paperwork from the referring hospital/pathologist as the new "Date-of-service"? If so, what do you do when the paperwork gives a date (say Friday) and then the specimen is not sent out until the following Monday? Thank you.
