we used to do one hour in each step formalin through to paraffin (2 steps of paraffin).
But 4 to 5mm is a little on the thick side. We used to try for 3 mm. But didn't always get it that way.

Subject: [Histonet] Re: paraffin processing times for brain
Hi all
I was wondering if anyone can send me please the optimal paraffin
processing times for brain autopsy tissue.
Currently the blocks have cut and stained well but 4-5mm thick tissue
has expanded (bulged out) following cutting as if they had absorbed water.
Solutions been all changed.
thanks
Stephen
