  It is not necessary to start a fire to break down large complex hydrocarbon molecules. That is what the petroleum refineries do every day and is called "cracking".
  Paraffin cannot be heated in a MW oven. They are non polar molecules and non polar molecules are not affected by the microwaves because they cannot "vibrate" under their influence and therefore cannot transform the movement (vibration) energy induced by the MW into heat energy.
