Mary - this is some advice from the Fred Underwood on the Histonet from 2004! Immerse the slide in acetone for about 5 minutes. The film will swell up and come right off the slide. Swish the slide in alcohol then back into xylene(a couple of changes) and coverslip. Dick Paulson
