Rather interestingly, some of the best African violets I have ever seen
were grown in the cytology section of the laboratory in Sultan Qaboos
University Hospital. Beautiful blooms all year round.................

Why not a Logwood tree,  Haematoxylum campechianum, they make great
bonsai 
specimens?
