Although there is no C.I. number, the Biological Stain Commission has
cresyl echt violet certified for use with Powers and Clark method on NBF
and Bouins fixed brain and spinal cord, available from Sigma.

For our work to stain Nissl, we use the uncertified and it works fine.

Interesting thing, when we were setting up the stain, we were handed
crystal violet! Whoops, not the same thing/dye! Be sure to check labels.
