Since the mucus will tend to be water soluble. I would suggest 10% formaldehyde in alcohol.
Fix for the usual time, dependant on size.

Subject: [Histonet] Intestinal mucus -- Carnoy or what?

Hello!

What is the best way to fix intestinal samples in order to preserve the mucus (and the embedded bacteria)?
I was recommended Carnoy's, but are there any alternatives... perhaps without chloroform?

With best regards,
Mikael
