I suppose you're referring to the embedding gel for cytology cell
blocks (often done with pleural and peritoneal fluids). It goes by the
trade name of HistoGel. I think it's made by whatever Thermo is called
this week. There's a considerable amount of information about it in
the Histonet archives - check Google.

An alternative is 3% agar, such as tubed TSB (trypticase soy broth) if
they still make that. I don't have a lot of experience with either of
these materials. I have no commercial connection with any of these
products.
