Dear Investigators and Research Personnel,
TACC (Texas Advanced Computing Center) is coming to UT Southwestern to
host a workshop for members of the Research Community.
Introduction to High Performance Computing for Life Scientists
October 19, 2011
9 a.m. 4 p.m. (CDT)

Space is limited to 25 students.
Location: BP A.310
This oneday workshop is intended to provide life scientists with all the
basic information and Linux/Unix skills necessary to effectively use
TACC¹s array of Computational Biology resources for their research.
Hands-on examples are heavily incorporated into the material, giving
attendees experience working with TACC systems
Topics to be covered include:
€ HPC, visualization and storage systems
€ Core Linux/Unix commands and utilities
€ Login and remote access
€ Job submission and management
€ File transfer and data management
€ Available computational biology software
The class is intended for high performance computing ³novices² and
advanced computing skills are NOT required. No prerequisite.
Please bring your own laptop to the course. A limited number of laptops
will be available for those who do not have their own.
Attendees traveling to the training class are responsible for arranging
and paying for their own travel, daily expenses, and hotel
