Good afternoon research community,
We are excited to announce that we will shortly be launching "Clinical Research Foundations", an introductory research training program which will be assigned at point of hire for all incoming clinical research staff to UT Southwestern. This program was developed in collaboration with the Human Research Protection Program and the Office of Clinical Research with support from the UT Southwestern Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA). The training will be administered by the Office of Clinical Research and managed by Sandra Morones, RN, BSM, MSPH, Clinical Research Educator.
We anticipate the training roll-out around Summer 2023. Further details will follow and we will be scheduling a Town Hall meeting to present the curriculum and process for training new staff. In the meantime, we wanted to make you aware that this was on the horizon and raise a few points in preparation:
* The Clinical Research Foundations training will be mandatory for UTSW staff and assigned at point of hire for new clinical research staff that hold a research job title.
* We will be using data from PeopleSoft to assign this training to those new staff with a research job title, however the training will be on offer for all, so if managers wish to assign this training to individuals who do not have a research job code there will be a mechanism for this.
* The onboarding training will be available online via the CITI program to allow new staff to complete it at their own pace and at a time convenient for departments. This platform also allows affiliate and existing staff to complete the training if they wish to do so.
* The purpose of this training is not to replace existing Department training that goes beyond what is covered by the Clinical Research Foundations curriculum. With this new training we will be ensuring that all new research staff at UTSW have a consistent foundational understanding of clinical research practices, which can then be supplemented with any Department or subject-specific training.
We will be providing teams with a copy of the curriculum and further details shortly. In the meantime, if you have any comments or queries, please do not hesitate to reach out to OCR at utsouthwestern.edu<mailto:OCR at utsouthwestern.edu>.
