[Histonet] IHC

I think it really depends the lab. There are no specific regulations that
require that it be separate. However, if you don't have a good training
plan for new hires - or you have a team that isn't consistently dedicated
to performing procedures by the book I have seen where IHC and other things
like Neuro/Renal/Autopsy/Frozen sections are performed by only specific
portions of an overall Histology team.
The pitfalls of having dedicated IHC folks does mean if anyone is ever out
on leave, or finds another position if you don't have enough people cross
trained you can end up shooting yourself in the foot operationally. So I
have found that trying to share the work across the team has worked best
for me in my experience. Where I am at we only let our ASCP certified techs
do IHC, we don't do any of the other specialty histo workflows
unfortunately.
I hope this helps!
