Toxicologic Pathology Associates, Inc has the following position available at the National Center for Toxicological Research in Jefferson, Arkansas:
Toxicologic Pathology Associates, Inc (TPA) is seeking an experienced histotechnician/histotechnologist for our histology laboratory. TPA is an on-site contractor of the Food and Drug Administration and provides pathology and pathology-related services at the National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) in Jefferson, Arkansas. Our work involves processing animal tissues (mice, rat, guinea pig, rabbit, minipig and non-human primates) or cultured tissues (organoids, spheroids, membrane inserts and more). The regular workdays are Monday to Friday and regular work hours are between 7am to 5 pm. The weekend duty expectations are occasional and are on as-needed basis.
* The current position is for an experienced histotechnician, who has a bachelor's or an associate's degree and/or HT or HTL (ASCP) certification or a suitable combination of education and hands-on experience.
* Experience of cryomicrotomy, ultrathin sectioning is highly desirable.
* An ideal candidate should be able to work independently with minimal training/supervision, should have good cognitive skills, must be detail oriented, and should be looking for a long career in histology. There is an opportunity for growth in this position.
* Good attendance, punctuality, excellent interpersonal and customer-oriented skills are basic requirements.
* The histotechnician is responsible for processing all specimens received in the Histology laboratory, which requires independent judgment in selection of methodologies utilized in processing tissue specimens and in solving problems.
* The histotechnician is responsible for appropriately staining of the slides (routine or special stains).
* The histotechnician is responsible for labeling, entering, and tracking the progress of the specimen until it reaches the Pathologist.
* The histotechnician is also responsible for the maintenance of the histology area by maintaining inventory and supplies, cleaning and organizing of workstations, disposal of biological waste, adherence to all compliance and operational procedures.
* The histotechnician should follow safe work practices and should maintain safety through use of personal protective equipment.
* Additional duties include development of new methods, documentation per GLP guidelines and communication with pathologists.
TPA provides a comprehensive benefits package to its employees and a competitive starting salary commensurate with experience, expertise and skill set. Employment of successful candidates will be contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory drug screening report, obtaining the necessary federal government security clearance and successful passing of a required physical examination. Drug screening is provided by an off-site third party and is paid for by TPA. The annual physical examination is provided by the NCTR Occupational Medical Program and is at no cost to the employee.
