[Histonet] amount of nucleic acids in ffpet

Hi all!

I came across this sentence in a histo-textbook from Baker 1958: "The amount
of nucleic acids (DNA + RNA) in cells is reduced by 10 to 35% by
formaldehyde fixation."

I wonder, what it means.

Do the nucleic acids get lost during fixation? Or is it just an expression
for the lack of stainability or proof at that time?

Maybe someone has an opinion to share?

Kind regards

Gudrun
