Thanks, Terri
Me an OLD geezer too!
I have always been an advocate of more time spent... meaningfully ( in-out of the dayjob)
In my younger professional days.....I was criticised for proposing changes to techniques to minimise time spent on techniques
eg: the Achest enzyme histochemical method for Hirschprung's disease ( use an antibody instead!); using DPX instead of Canada balsam (the de facto standard, then....)
Who uses DPX nowadays???.....chuckle
I disagree with you re " valuable time"
Having spent many years as a Lab Manager....I know that there is always downtime
This should be used to enhance technical know-how....eg: what is in the solutions/why do they work?
For eg: it takes ~ 60 mins to make up Masson's reagents from basics
These will last FAR longer than buying in expensive, low volume commercial preps
Ditto Haemalum solutions...why use Gill's/Erlich's/Mayer's ??
We are teckies.....not RTU people?
NB1: yep....places for RTU reagents
NB2: it is interesting that Light sheet confocal microscopy for antibody use ....uses pretty much OLD techniques to "clear" the tissue
Sure, different reagents but.....still a painfully LONG process?
Discuss
😉
Best wishes
