Job Summary
Under supervision by Senior-level technologists, Lead technologist and the Histology Supervisor, the incumbent serves as a Histotechnologist in the Histology laboratory. Duties include tissue processing, embedding, paraffin sectioning, H&E staining, Special Staining, specimen receipt and accessioning, Laboratory Information System operation, Quality Assurance record keeping, instrument maintenance and other technical duties as assigned, including coverage in the Immunohistochemistry laboratory . Rotates weekly between workstations within the lab. Work schedule is variable to include Weekends and holiday coverage as scheduled. Incumbent must be able to flex work hours as needed to meet Department operational needs and cover work rotations.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry, AND one year of experience as a histotechnologist, preferably in a high-volume hospital histology laboratory within the last five years, or completion of an associate degree from an accredited Histotechnology program. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
* One to two years experience as a Histotechnologist
* ASCP certification: HT or HTL licensed strongly preferred
