Dear all,

How do you tackle specimens which are marked positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, fresh or fixed, since grossing does not involve the release of aerosols?

Not sure if fixation with formalin actually deactivates the infectious agent. Read somewhere that there is an alcohol/formalin solution for such specimens prior to arriving at the lab.
