For those of you that are CAP accredited, and use a cryostat with UV disinfection, how do you get around the CAP requirement listed below? We were told the UV disinfection did not replace wiping down with a tuberculocidal disinfectant at room temp. Do you have an approved tuberculocidal disinfectant that will work at cryostat temps? Curious minds would like to know!
ANP.23410	Cryostat Decontamination	Phase II
There is a written procedure for the decontamination of the cryostat at defined intervals, and under defined circumstances, and decontamination records are evident.
NOTE: The cryostat must be defrosted and decontaminated by wiping all exposed surfaces with tuberculocidal disinfectant. The cryostat should be at room temperature during decontamination unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer. This should be done at an interval appropriate for the institution; this must be weekly for instruments used daily. Trimmings and sections of tissue that accumulate inside the cryostat must be removed during decontamination. Although not a requirement, steel mesh gloves should be worn when changing knife blades.
