This is a challenging topic. We did it in 2004. 
You must have deep pockets and committed clients. 
Even then, it is a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Run your traps, and live off what you kill. 
It can be done, but the wind is always in your face and the first 7 years are mostly uphill.
