I've had mine longer than that and don't have a problem.  I have a feeling that you may need a bit of service on it.

I also have a Primera slide printer. It worked well at first but now it is
2 years old and prints very slowly. I can hand write up slides faster than they print. I will be in the market for a new slide printer soon and will not be going back to Primera.
