Hello Fellow Histonetters,

We often get slides from another hospital for Oil Red O staining. On occasion, they send them at room temp. and until they get to us it's been a day or more.
I'm worried that because they are unfixed the cells will be autolyzed and I don't want to charge the patient for a useless stain.
I haven't been able to find any guidance on how long a frozen section can sit at room temp. and still be acceptable to stain for Oil Red O.
Your thought and opinions please?

Angie
