The regulations vary from city to city and are managed at the municipal level. It is usually set and managed by the city chemist or the head of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for your area. It can also vary when compared to the total volume sewage discharged from your facility. Believe it or not, in some places, small amounts can be approved for drain disposal without any neutralization. Make friends with your city EPA rep. It can be an invaluable relationship, and usually they will appreciate your effort to be compliant.
