Fisher sells a RTU solution of the bromcresol purple. We use that for our glassware. It works very well.

What is everyone using to test their glassware for detergent residue? Is there a ready to use solution or not?

CAP Checklist...

Glassware Cleaning Phase II

There are appropriate documented procedures for handling and cleaning glassware, including
methods for testing for detergent removal.

NOTE: Special instructions for micropipettes, cuvets, acid washing, etc. must be included.

A simple procedure to check for detergent residue uses bromcresol purple (0.1 g bromcresol purple
in 50 mL ethyl alcohol). Pipette approximately 5 cm (2 inches) distilled water into a representative,
washed, glassware item. Add two to three drops bromcresol solution. A purple color reveals residual
detergent. A yellow color indicates satisfactory rinsing.

Thanks!
