Now you got me confused! If you are looking for infectious agents, why would you like to destroy them?????Can you elaborate?

 We are looking at infectious agents in thin blood smears and how to eliminate them before staining using fixation. Other than methanol, what are other  fixatives that could possibly be used for  fixing thin films ( that would destroy infectious agents) and allow  staining with Giemsa stain.
