[Histonet] Xylene Substitutes

I use XS-3 from Statlab for staining. Since it is substitute I had to do some adjusting to the stain line but once I got it right I have had no problems  We pay about $70 for 4 gal.

I have a colleague who is convinced paint thinner is exactly the same as the SubX we use. Does anyone know if this is true?
