I would agree that it is not appropriate. How are they labeled? Ours come in a properly labeled, closed specimen container just like anything else. The only difference being that these are submitted fresh without formalin. Everything else is the same.
What do you do with any remaining tissue? Does your staff label a container for storage of any remaining tissue?

How are other hospitals transporting "fresh" tissue specimens from operating rooms to the Pathology Frozen Section room for an intraoperative consultation? Occasionally, we get specimens delivered on "towels" and I don't think this is appropriate. I think they should be in a container that can be sealed along with the appropriate patient identification.
