For preservation of glycogen, it's important to keep the specimen cold
during fixation.

Buffered formalin or Bouin's work well for glycogen demonstration but an

alcoholic fixative (alcoholic Bouin or formalin-alcohol-acetic acid) 
will almost certainly, be better.
