Hi All,

Buttons refer to the round (and sometimes square) metal cassettes with snap
lids which were commonly used back in the mono and duo Technicon days. This
was near the dinosaur era about 30 - 35 or so years ago. Later came plastic
cassettes and little metal molds made by Tissue Tek. I remember interviewing
for a job at the Los Angeles County General Hospital in 1973 and they still
used lead L-molds and had the days supply stacked up about two feet high
beside the embedding area. They used a heated pitcher to fill the molds. I
thought that was archaic in those days because there were peel-a-way molds
and the Tissue Tek embedding center which worked 'better'. Well, so much for
stimulating that part of my memory.

The first clinical histology job I had one of the pathologist called
cassettes, buttons.
I had never heard that before.
