OK.
The FS was doused in aceto-alcohol as per usual.
The pleural fluid was a cytospin (how I now hate that device) fixed in
alcohol in our normal way. (It is as you observe no doubt, air dried at
the edge from which I took the photo, but that's because the bubbles
show better there). 

Now - there's the basis of a separate thread - how can you tell whether
a smear is fixed well or not? What is "fixed well"?

I thought she'd said inadequate fixation not just formalin fixation;
could it be that the frozen section and pleural fluid were inadequately
fixed? Or not fixed at all, which I suppose would prove her point,
wouldn't it?
