I thought about solving the last of the bound water out of protein, if this
is even possible. I’ve read, that overdehydration while embedding changes
the refraction of collagen (Histologic). And that would enhance the glassy
effect. 

Butylacetat is like aceton, the slides dry very fast, and the (own) skin is
rendered white after contact.  The positives about that are, that the slides
are beautiful clean and clear and that they smell only for a few minutes.
