Elizabeth,
I also work with heart valves and I am confused as to your statement "that  
heart valves don't contain muscle", since the walls of the valves are full of  
smooth muscle cells (more or less depending on the valve type), and I would  
expect to see red staining for cytoplasm and muscle.  Could you elaborate a  
bit?
