Amy:
We ran a lab in a teaching hospital with always 5 or more pathology residents. Under those conditions, and for teaching and research purposes, we used to keep our blocks for 9 years (that was our disposable space for blocks cabinets) and the slides for ever.
There were blocks used for consult or relating to legal cases that were also kept for ever.
Each State has particular rules about minimum periods to retain blocks and slides.

Hello histonetters,
Due to the limited space of my lab I need to discard some blocks and slides. I am thinking setting a "rule" about how long I can keep paraffin blocks and slides. I need to know how other people do it. Could you share your "rules"?
Thanks in advance,
Amy
