A few days ago on the Histonet, there was an enquiry about using alizarin red S for demonstrating gunshot residue in hostologic sections. Has anyone else ever heard about this? How does it work? I would have thought gunshot residue would comprise of carbon and gunpowder/propellant, while alizarin stains calcium. Am I missing something?
