Gus:
  I substituted uranyl nitrate with phosphotungstic acid in the Steiner procedure. I did not try it in the Warthin Starry (that by the way I do not like that much).
  You could try this substitution. On separate cover I am attaching a paper I published on the subject that I hope will help you.
