Try decalcifying with EDTA which is a chelating agent used at pH7; not like an acid decalcifyer. It always worked fine for me.

I am having a problem getting my bone marrow aspirate cell blocks and
core biopsies to stain positively for Iron. The aspirate smears are
staining fine. The cell block and core biopsy are fixed in 10%NBF and
the core biopsy is decaled for one hour in Cal-Ex (Fisher). Any
suggestions??
