[Histonet] Silicone slides

Silicone must surely be an error for silanized slides.
These are treated with aminotriethylaminosilane (APES),
which combines chemically with the polysilicate ions of
the glass. This leaves the surface covered with
aminopropyl groups, which are protonated (positively
charged) in the presence of slightly acidic water. See
http://publish.uwo.ca/~jkiernan/adhesivs.htm
for more information. It's easy to make your own
silanized slides, or you can buy them ready-made;
they have names like Plus.

Silicone treatment of glass usually means reacting
it with a hydrophobic silane derivative to make
the surface non-wettable. This is the last thing
you'd want for mounting sections.
