You've just summed up the political climate in the United States
perfectly....
 
Frankly, I believe that methodology should be followed as written.
Protocol development is where you can make changes, starting with
published protocols and making whatever modifications from there.
Controls, controls, and controls and very critical evaluation should
then follow.
