We used to use isopropyl alcohol for the dilute alcohols (75% and 95%) and
ethanol for the absolute stations with no problems.

In days of severe shortage of 100% ethanol we used mathanol or
denatured
alcohol ( 99BP Spirit) in processing and staining.
