Our lab will cut "Spares" if they are requested. What we do is cut 1 level,
then 3-4 spares and then another level. The spares we cut are saved for 3-4
days. If no other requests are made for them one is stained H & E and the
others disposed of. Sometimes it seems such a waste of slides since we
usually end up throwing away about a dozen slides a week, but for patient
care it acts as insurance.
