The latest survey by ASCP was done fall 2002. Since they do the survey every
other year, it will probably be repeated in fall 2004. The link to the 2002
survey (published fall 2003) is below.

At the time of the last survey, there was a 8.7% vacancy of HT, and 10.0%
for HTL. This is all labs (hospital, private, etc.) in all parts of US. The
report breaks it down to types of labs, size of facility, region of country,
etc.
HT and HTL had the highest vacancy rates of all lab techs. (Nursing vacancy
is about 10%, so we are about equivalent to the nursing shortage. But you
never hear about our shortage, do you?)
