Unless the oven's explosion-proof, heating xylene is a potential
flammability/explosion hazard -- notwithstanding that the Coplin jar is
covered.

Patsy,
To make the coverslip come off faster, fill a coplin jar with xylene and put
the slides in, cover with a top and then put the coplin jar into a 60 degree
C. oven and agitate the xylene occaisionally and the coverslip will come off
in much less time than soaking at room temperature. It's a little trick I've
learned.

I know this has come up before but don't remember the details. I would like
to do IHC for AE1/AE3 on a slide from a study set that has been H&E stained
and coverslipped for some time now. Please advise. Is there a preferred
method for removing the coverslip and maintaining the section integrety?
Destaining the H&E? Doing the IHC stain on this section? Patsy
