[Histonet] Cutting Bee heads

Hello all,
I'm helping this high school student with his science project.  He needs
bee's heads cut to include a complete cross section of brain. Since all my
experience is clinical, what is the best way to cut through the exoskeleton?
I've processed the heads and tried using Nair to soften up the keratin, but
is there another way to process these things.  Thanks for your help.
