People who take a strategic, intentional approach to their next step, instead of jumping at the first opening , are finding positions with better stability, clearer expectations, and long?term growth. They?re not just changing where they work; they?re changing the quality of their work life. I recently put together a short guide that explains: ? The difference between moving forward with intention vs. getting stuck in a draining search ? The many directions available in histology that most people don?t realize ? What labs look for when considering someone for higher?level, remote, or hybrid opportunities ? How being in a permanent position can strengthen your long?term options ? A simple way to map out your next step with clarity instead of stress Read it here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/off-bench-strategic-career-move-vs-frustrating-job-search-pam-barker-xos6e I am working on some amazing opportunities throughout the U.S. just the kind that are the jumping off point my article talks about. Here are the locations: FL CA OK TN WA WI With new locations coming in regularly! If you?re thinking about making a change or you just want to understand what options truly fit your goals, I?m always happy to talk it through with you. I tried it and wrote the following. If you have the "disk type " chucks like with the Epredia cryostats 1. keep a heat sink at room temp(This is not the same heat sink you use to chill your blocks) 2. protect the cut surface of the OCT block with a thin layer of OCT, allow to harden 3. place the heat sink on the back of the chuck and hold for a few seconds 4. apply pressure on your block as if to slide it off the chuck, as soon as you feel the give, the block should slide off the chuck. 5. immediately return the sample/OCT block to your cryostat chamber 6. Keep heat sink at room temp A little water works great also if you have chucks with stems. Thank you, E-van //////// Emory Univ. The chuck will warm the back of the oct without warming the rest of the block significantly. The block will separate from the chuck and you can store it however you want. I'm not a fan of running water on it if you intend to store it frozen. The water will leave tons of ice crystals. The same is true to a lesser extent in just leaving it out in room temperature. If you want to keep it frozen then don't let the whole block warm up...just the chuck. > Cheers, Amos Brooks -------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Fri, 22 May 2026 12:09:19 +0000 From: "Villarreal, Beth" To: "histonet at lists.utsouthwestern.edu" Subject: [Histonet] safe tools for removal of specimens from cryostat chuck Message-ID: < BL1P171MB0099292FBD71D84765A8BB8C9C0F2 at BL1P171MB0099.NAMP171.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hello Histonetters, We're reviewing our safety protocols, and I'm wondering what others use to remove OCT blocks from the chuck in cryosectioning.
