She was a founding member of NSH and served as President and Speaker of the HOD for many years. At Baylor she was the department leadership for 35 years, opening one of the first NAACLS approved schools in the nation in 1971. Numerous Histotechnician have had the privilege to have been trained by her or have used one of the 5 editions of her Histology training book throughout the years. Naming the lab after her is a little thing compared to what she has done for our profession. I am excited that the Baylor Board of Trustees is honoring her with this prestigious tribute. As a reference lab, doing large numbers of block histo with specials and IHC, we really don't need so much in terms of report and results... we do need that and use it but these programs are not build to do what we need and it's frustrating. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good out of the box program or web based program that would work good for just simple databasing the blocks and stains we provide service on? We need to generate labels of course, deliver logs and records of blocks received... then monthly totals for billing... any input is greatly appreciated. Best! Do NOT store tissue in saline or what have you. Put it in saline-moistened gauze or similar material, and put it in the refrigerator (not the freezer) until you're ready to freeze and cut it. Every OR nurse is taught that afloat in saline is the pathologist's friend, but it's a disaster. By the way, "Mohs" isn't an acronym, not MOHS. Frederic Mohns (1910-2002 - has a Wikipedia bio) was an American surgeon who developed a surgical technique somewhat similar to the procedure that bears his name.
